Welcome!

Hey! Welcome! I’m Jaime Hunt, but my husband calls me James because Jaime has just never fit me, and I happen to agree! I’m glad you’re here!

So, James, why did you decide to start a blog? In the words of the amazing Elyse Myers, “Great question, I would love to tell you.” We live in a world where people are desperately seeking realness. With AI looming around the corner, trying to convince us Kim Kardashian is now transgender and Taylor Swift is already married with a child on the way to Travis Kelce, I want to add more realness to the narrative. I read an article once that said the average stress level of college kids today would have put someone in a mental institution in the 50s. I don’t know about you, but that stresses me out… I work really hard at building a life that is a sanctuary from the rest of the world, and I believe THAT is self-care. Taking care of yourself is in everything not just bubble baths. With so much happening in this world, I want to bring truth, healing, and a safe space to have discussions about what we don’t know about… yet!

When the world is hell-bent on this or that scenarios, I find myself always living in the “or” option, which many of us do. I was never really a popular kid; I was a bullied kid and always had different interests from my friends and what was going on socially at the time. I’ve never really understood trends or being an influencer, and the idea of being recognized or scrutinized on the internet kind of terrifies me. Still, I always root for the underdog, the different opinion, and think the person most qualified to do anything is the person who wants it the least. That sounds a little ridiculous coming from the person about to embark on a journey into the internet world! I tend to agree, but this journey is kind of for me. I keep my life very private so no one can have an opinion on what I am doing, and it has left me scared of sharing a whole lot of anything with anyone. This is for me as much as anyone else! You will never make it through this world unscathed because people will always die, someone will mistreat you, money will be tight, or you will be in a job you don’t love. That is the beautiful, messy part of life!  Sharing your life and story with people is therapeutic, and others benefit from it as well. This world is so disconnected from each other, and people think they are alone in the things they struggle in, but no one is ever truly alone and I have a knack at getting myself into ridiculous situations and struggling through working them out. This blog will be messy and at times a bit ridiculous, but if it helps even one person it will be worth it!

During my research into how to write and start a blog, everyone’s first step was to pick a topic about what they would be writing. Well, it might not help me with my click count, but I won’t be able to pick just one topic. I like to say I am a “retired” special education teacher. I taught for 4 years, but it just took so much of my energy that I could not keep up with it forever; I’ve taught a variety of things and have some perspective on the topic. I have a special interest in religion. I was raised a pretty conservative Christian and have since really dove into what that means and how it impacts the world. IcraftYes, that is the full sentence… I have done a little bit of everything from crocheting to ripping all of the carpets out of my house over Christmas break and hand-sanding all the floors because no one could do it better. We’ve had a foster child (we, as in me and my husband) so we talk about trauma because don’t we all have a little? We will talk about how broken that system is and about relationships of all kinds. I also live with chronic health conditions, so all of that to say, I bet there is something for everyone here! I read peer-reviewed educational articles and textbooks for fun, so if I become interested in it, there is a chance you’ll be able to read about it.

I hope you decide to stick around, learn something, and ✨heal✨ with me!
